Needs Statement
Poorly legible penmanship, incomplete dose information, and the absence of point of care interaction checking (drug to drug interactions and patient drug allergies), substantially increases the risk and occurrence of medication errors. Pharmacy inquiry to physician offices to clarify prescription information add inefficiency to the process, and negatively affects the timeliness of patients' receipt of needed medications. The proposed educational activity frames the problem and introduces the intervention, that is the adoption of an electronic prescription writer (Rx Writer). The moderate complexity of the Rx Writer dictates formal introduction of the product.Target Audience
Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and PharmacistsObjectives
1. Discuss the benefits to patient safety of using an electronic prescription writer.2. Employ SCM prescription writer functionality to write patient prescriptions to print.
3. Print patient medication report summaries as appropriate.
