Needs Statement

The West Nile Virus infection has in recent years been the most common cause of epidemic encephalitis in the United States. Because of the rise in the number of cases there is a need for neurologists to understand its epidemiology, clinical and laboratory presentation, diagnosis and treatment.

Target Audience

Physicians, physician assistants, neurologists, and anyone in the healthcare field interested in West Nile Virus.

Objectives

1. Describe characteristic neurological features of neuroinvasive disease caused by West Nile virus;
2. Describe classic neuroimaging, CSF, and laboratory diagnostic features of WNV objectives.
